Clergyman Building and the Lady Building

牧師樓與姑娘樓
Clergyman Building and the Lady Building

Clergyman Building and the Lady Building are two westernized buildings with red brick corridors, which were built with excellent brickwork and elegant proportion. One of the buildings was built by William Wu in 1909 for the headmistresses of two girl schools in Tamsui. The locals called it the “Lady Building” in honor of the female missionaries who came to Taiwan and devoted their youth and happiness to this place.

The one on the west side was built by William Wu as his own dormitory. Rev. Hugh MacMillan and Rev. James I. Dickson lived there too, therefore this building was also known as the “Clergyman Building”. Later the buildings were leased to Tamkang Middle School as classroom buildings, and were named “The Dragon Building” (Clergyman Building) and the “Rose Finch Building” (the Lady Building).
